Our Business
Our Story
Founded by former Braniff Airline pilots and flight attendants, we took our first flight on a Boeing 727 from Sioux Falls to Las Vegas on January 20, 1983. Early years were marked with enthusiasm and expansion, with Sun Country primarily operating charter flights to popular vacation destinations from the Twin Cities and a later acquisition of a wide-body DC10 to fly additional international trips. In June of 1999, Sun Country began transitioning from a charter carrier into a scheduled service airline to meet changing passenger demands which signaled a shift in the future of the company.​

We fly when and where our customers want to go. Scheduled service happens predominantly on weekends and holidays to best meet our customers’ needs.
